Wood Splitting Party!

On Saturday, the Burke's came over to help us cut, split and stack our wood.  My friend, Emma and I  drove our Dad's trucks up to where they were cutting the wood.  We loaded the trucks up with wood and then drove them back down to the wood splitter, split the wood, then stacked it. We did that all day and it was so fun! Emma and I kept saying that it wouldn't be half as fun if we didn't get to drive!!

Mrs. Burke has her own chainsaw and chaps!

Libby, Emma and me.

Working on the wood splitter.

Driving back up to the wood pile to get another load of wood (all the little kids tried to pile into the back seats...)!

Dad is cutting up some more wood.

Emma tried chopping wood with the ax!

Dad and Dan got the root cellar roof done this past week!! YAY!!!!

Bennett has been saving up money for the past year so that he could get an iPod Touch.  Last week, he finally got it while we were at Walmart. Apple had just come out with a white iPod Touch, and the Walmart employee said that he was the first person who bought the white one!  He is soooooooooooo excited!! (Dad helped him buy the black case).

Sunrise!

This morning we woke up to a really pretty sunrise. I took a picture of a berry bush with the purple sky behind it. It turned out really nice!

Preston loves to help Dad put mortar down!

They finished this wall, plus the one behind Preston. YAY! Finally!!!!

Boys at work:

No More Grace

On Monday, we woke up to a pile of white chicken feathers in the field.  We just found out today that there has been a coyote wandering around and finally our neighbor shot it because it was trying to kill his chickens too.  My Mom thought that it was a bear, but it turns out that it was a hungry coyote. We then noticed that it was Grace (our chicken made out of steel, the one that would not die) who got eaten. Now we only have her kids, Daisy and Duke. My Mom said that she hopes that her kids have her strong genes! =)

I took some pictures of Devil's Slide and the bend in the river while the fall colors are still on the trees. It was so pretty!

This morning, there was a bunch of frost on the ground outside. It was a beautiful morning! There was not a cloud in the sky.

Today, Dan and Becky came over to load their portion of the wood into their horse trailer. Dan also helped us with the root cellar. They made two trips to their house today and when we get the wood splitter from Uncle Paul, we are going to have a big wood splitting party! :)

Loading up the wood in their trailer.

Dan and Becky's half!

Unloading it at Dan and Becky's house.

I took some fall pictures of the pretty leaves on the trees in front of their house.

The boys played with their "weapons".

Dad and the boys have been working a lot on the root cellar and half of the wall is already done!!

Working On The Root Cellar

Yesterday, Dan came over to help us work on the root cellar. We got our load of cinder blocks and cement a couple of days ago and Dan, Dad and the boys laid some of the blocks under the root cellar.

This is our pile of cinder blocks.

Dan, laying down the cinder blocks.

Preston is getting more cement for the project.
